TangoLife Holiday Practica Party!

Dear TangoLovers,
It’s time for Bellingham’s annual Holiday Practica Party! Wednesday December 12 we will still have class at 6:30-7:30, but from 7:30-10 pm (a little longer) let the Merriment begin! Let’s Potluck as usual with your favorite sweets, finger food or beverages. Rebecca will bring cups, plates, etc. There will be two DJ’s in the house: David will fill the room with jovial tango and other tunes, plus DJ Jim Dickinson will be playing special selections from his record collection!   And if we haven’t seen YOU for a while, please come for some holiday hugs and a tanda!

And here is a fun note from Melissa:
“Tango Consignment Store Dec 12!
Do you have a closet full of fabulous clothes that you don’t wear anymore? Gorgeous shoes that just don’t fit? This season we thought it would be fun to offer up a shoe and clothing consignment store at our holiday Practica Party December 12.

The Plan: Every person bringing items for consignment fills a short form with their name and phone number, then prices their items on provided tags. Pick up your cash from any sales at the end of the practica. Remove or donate your remaining items. It’s that easy!”

Melissa will supervise the table. Remember to bring cash! Any donated items will be priced cheap, with any proceeds going to boost our community Practica. It is sure to be a good time. Dec 12 there will be snacks, beverages, good music, dancing, and even couches for visiting. Come early for class, and stay late for the company!”
We hope to see you there!
…………………..
Come one and all to our BEGINNING TANGO CLASS, with FUN students, technique drills, games, and time to explore step sequences and develop your tango from the ground up. No partner, experience nor special shoes needed.
Class: 6:30-7:30 pm, Beginner/Early intermediate level. $10. Instructors: Rebecca Niemier, Eric Cole.

Even if you are one of the many who have learned “just a bit” about Argentine Tango, and are curious to explore this dance more, we sincerely hope you will join us! Dancing is a celebrated and integral part of so many cultures for very good reasons. Expanding your social circle while simultaneously exercising your body, brain, balance, and listening to compelling music is a recipe for success for everyone. Head into winter with a smile on your face and new friends at your side! Begin any Wednesday in September!

ALL COMMUNITY TANGO PRACTICA!
WEDNESDAYS from 7:30-9:30 pm, for a mere $5, now in the upstairs dance room at the Majestic, 1027 N Forest St! All levels are welcome. No partner needed. Dance with everyone, or just your favorite partner. Work out those moves you learned in class! Mostly traditional tango music. Save a landfill and bring a water bottle. Street parking is free. Join us as we celebrate YOUR individuality, your inner lives, your outer lives, and particularly, your TangoLife! Bring your holiday spirit, your non-holiday spirit, your alternative spirit, your questioning spirit, and let’s prepare to send this year out into the vapors of wonderment. Because face it, it has been a year of mystery!

To keep us more joyfully tethered to a reality we LOVE, we have the honor of hosting Carlos and Maureen Urrego at TangoLife for the third time! As our current USA Tango Champions, you can be sure that their HEARTS and SOULS (and SKILLS!) are deep into tango. What is especially marvelous is that they are also excellent teachers, and compassionate people. In addition, Carlos’ DJ mastery is out of this world. Last time I called him “relentless.” He may melt a few snow flakes right onto our dance floor!

So come early to Bellingham to take the class, enjoy the dancing, the music, the food, the FAKE snow flake décor, and all your kindred and flaky spirits.

TangoLife Updates + Halloween Practica

Dear TangoLovers,

Below are a few important updates for your tango social calendar:

TangoLife Halloween Costume Party at the Practica! Oct 31.
It’s time for a Halloween costume party! Come help us transform the practica into a wildly colorful fantasy evening. POTLUCK finger foods encouraged, cider and treats will accompany our dancing and friendships. We have missed ALL those who have been away for various reasons and hope to make this a little REUNION of Bellingham’s (and our outlying areas!) most interesting tango characters! Paper plates, cups, napkins, cider provided. AND I’ll bring a big bag of hats, capes and other paraphernalia from my magic costume closet for those who are better at practicing minimalism than I am.

The lesson on Halloween is canceled to allow for social time, treats, tricks, etc. Doors open at 6:30 for all you dashing villians, heroes, and princesses. Even non-costumed dancers are MOST WELCOME! We would love a full house!

Two Thursday classes are canceled:

Thursdays October 18 and Oct 25 classes are canceled as Rebecca is out of town. Regular Thursday students are encouraged to attend the classes at the Majestic on Wednesdays, with David Beaumier’s able teaching. He will adjust the class according to the level of students present. Keep your tango mojo going!

New Year’s Eve tickets:

Some have asked about paying for the NYE event without using Paypal. YES! This is fine. Cash, or check is fine, just meet me at any of the other events I normally see you at, or mail it to: Rebecca Niemier, 2610 Likely Ct, Bellingham, WA, 98229. Note that the price goes up at the end of each month. If you are interested in helping with set up and or clean up, let me know! We have already gotten a good reception for the event. 2019 here we come!

TangoLife New Classes + WEDNESDAY Practica

Dear TangoLovers!

NEW BEGINNININGS: This amazing warm summer is barreling along toward September, which for many, is a time to consider what their Fall/Winter activities will include. Historically, our tango community has welcomed many new dancers to TangoLife’s beginning classes in September and October. This particular new season will coincide with a fresh start in our wonderful new location at the Majestic, downstairs, at 1027 N Forest St, Bellingham.

NEW CLASS “TangoLife Beginning Tango + Practica”: Starting on September 5, the TangoLife program for brand new beginners will switch to WEDNESDAY nights, with beginning class from 6:30-7:30 pm, followed by a two hour open practice time until 9:30 pm. Class is $12 for drop ins, $10 each for a set of four classes. Optional practice time is $5, and student rate is by donation. The entrance to the downstairs level is on E Maple St, and signs will guide you to our new classroom.

NEW FRIENDS: If you are one of the many who have learned “just a bit” about Argentine Tango, and are curious to explore this dance more, I sincerely hope you will join us in September for a 4-class set!

NEW PRACTICA on WEDNESDAYS AND OPEN HOUSE: September is also the time when we begin to see our “alumni” returning to the dance floor, anxious to tune up their steps and technique and catch up with old friends. You alumni know what I mean when I say that our hearts miss you, and truly hope to see you at the NEW location and day of the week for our community practica, downstairs at the MAJESTIC at 1027 N Forest. A special bond forms when people strive together to create something touching and poignant, which is, no doubt, very good for our society right about now! And as many know, this is the essence of my tango mission.

Join us for the open house Wednesday, September 5 at the Majestic, 7:30-9:30 pm, for a mere $5 to help cover the rent. I’ll bring desserts, you bring beverages, David Beaumier will bring music, and we’ll all share some stories! Come be the U in CommUnity!

NEW TUESDAY INTERMEDIATE CLASS? RSVP IF YOU ARE INTERESTED! Beginning September 4, I will have Tuesday evenings open to begin a new intermediate class, for those wishing to refine and smooth out their tango. This is perhaps the most important phase of learning tango. Do not give up unless you have worked out these issues! For leads, we will work on smooth connections between patterns you may know, how to break apart patterns for true spontaneity and musicality, and tuning up posture, shapes and embrace. For follows, we focus on finding the sweet spot within the embrace to accompany your partner without stress, how to add your dance voice to the conversation (leads love this!), embellishments and correct techniques. Perfect material for returning dancers, or those with a few months of tango experience. Do RSVP ASAP so I know if we have enough for a full and balanced class! TangoLife Home Studio, 2610 Likely Ct. 7-8:30 pm. $12 drop in, $10 for a 4-class set.

NEW YOU—PRIVATE LESSONS: Still such a deal! $40/hr or $50 for 1.5 hr, for one student or a couple. All levels. Truly, ALL OF US benefit greatly from private lessons, including your fellow tango community members, as it becomes my task to gently but directly soften any rough edges on your dance technique so that others will be lined up to dance with you! The successful feedback I get from my private lesson students is so very rewarding. I really love diagnosing the “oops” situations so that the student—whether lead or follow—is able to self-correct in the future. And as I have said before, we will often make more improvements in one hour than a month of group lessons. That is….if you practice also! Call me darlings! Schedule a time slot to really move forward. 360-739-0685. Rebecca

We got no troubles, Life is the bubbles, Under the sea…

Since life is sweet here, We got the beat here, Naturally
Even the sturgeon an’ the ray, They get the urge ‘n’ start to play
We got the spirit, You got to hear it, Under the sea

Each little clam here, Know how to jam here
Each little slug here, Cuttin’ a rug here
Each little snail here, Know how to wail here
That’s why it’s hotter, Under the water

Under the sea!

Sorry for the corny paraphrase, but really, we’ll have lots of fun. Even more fun if you join us!
