TangoLife Classes July 14+

Dear TangoLovers,
This past weekend marked the 10th year in a row that I have attended the Seattle Tango Magic Festival!  Wow, that’s a lotta dancing and learning, and being part of the larger community.  After 4 milongas and 3 classes in 48 hours, and some VERY late nights, I spent most of Monday in extreme slow motion!  It was great to see so many of the Bellinghamsters there this year, but unfortunately we did not get the group photo!  Sooooo, if any of you can join us tomorrow (Wednesday 7/15), at 8 pm at Pure Bliss Desserts, 1424 Cornwall Ave, for a little dancing and a group photo, it would be really fun to share our adventures over some chocolate and wine.  I’ll have my iphone camera.  If you have something better, bring it along!

Here is a link to an article by Ney Melo called “The Speed of Sadness.”  I was thrilled to take 2 classes with Ney and Jennifer Brat, both of whom have contributed much to the art and passion of tango. Nice ideas to think about, and a video of their recent performance in Toronto.  http://neymelo.com/2015/06/22/the-juice/

TangoLife Classes June 30+

Bandshell2 2015TangoLovers,
Another weekend, another tango journey for me, this time to Vancouver Island for an outdoor milonga, two BBQ potlucks, sleeping under the stars, and a whole lotta mosquitoes…  Alas, it was worth it to reconnect with dancing buddies there, and 3 magic tandas of the “perfect fit” variety.

This week’s classes will include navigation and etiquette topics for managing oneself at milongas, whether at TangoLife Milonga (July 5) or at TangoMagic Festival in Seattle (July 9-13).  Let’s tune up the materials we have been covering in the past few weeks.  And as reward for your great efforts despite the heat, I will have ICE CREAM BARS and of course the fans going full speed!

PLEASE NOTE THAT A NEW SESSION OF BEGINNING TANGO STARTS NEXT WEEK, JULY 7 AT 7:30.  Let me know if you are ready to start (or re-start) lessons and I’ll reserve your spot.  Forward this email to any folks you know that might be interested!
And for your great illumination, I offer up this week’s treatise, written by the well respected Veronica Toumanova.  (Did I already send this?)  Please check it out:  https://m.facebook.com/notes/veronica-toumanova/why-we-marvel-at-steps-but-yearn-for-embraces/10151995908837499

TangoLife Classes June 23+

TangoLovers,
This past weekend included 3 workshops (5 hours) in Vancouver for myself and 3 of our tango compadres.  Susana Miller did not disappoint, if you are keen on purging that last bit of tension from your body, tuning up your posture, finding absolute horizon level with your eyes, and gaining further insights into creating a dance that will support a cozy, sustained close embrace.  Milonguero style at it’s best, with sage wisdom in every breath.

Classes are on normal schedule.  This week I will be touching on the elusive “HOME PRACTICE” to see how some of you may be incorporating that into your busy schedules.  (Last chance for New Year’s resolutions!)  Here are two videos of Agustin Rojas (son of Luis Albert Rojas) when he was practicing as a young boy and now as a young man.  Inspiring!
