TangoLife 100th Milonga

Rebecca’s 100th TangoLife Milonga
Dress to the Nines—Going out in style!
SUNDAY, May 5, 2019, 6:30-10:30 pm
DJ Marina Richter of Vancouver
Majestic Ballroom, 1027 N Forest St, Bellingham, WA
Entrada $15 ($20 CDN)/ $5 college students

On May 5, 2019, Rebecca’s TangoLife celebrates NINE years of hosting one of the finest and friendliest milongas in the Northwest. This will also be the 100th TangoLife Milonga, and as many have heard, it will be a celebration of the FINAL TangoLife Milonga.

This 9-year run of TangoLife has been an extraordinary experience. Such a deep sharing of lives and loves and longings is very significant. We have all contributed to a living, breathing, healing (and dancing!) organism that truly took on a life of its own. A TangoLife, I suppose. The mutual efforts and gratitude we have all shared with each other is the fabric of a healthy society, and warms my heart. I’ve so appreciated everyone’s support and friendship through the years, and the co-creation of a “blended tango community” in Bellingham. After a needed break, we shall see what other shenanigans arise!

I consider this a graduation, not a memorial, so join us on the dance floor! DJ Marina Richter of Vancouver is set to inspire us to new heights and visions as only she can do with her beautifully crafted tandas.

My special request of everyone is this: It will be a very crowded dance floor on this night, so I hope everyone will mind their very best LINE OF DANCE MANNERS, by dancing small, keeping together, with feet near the floor, not passing or interfering with other couples, and staying in your lane. Tango is certainly a cooperative venture, which includes more than just you and your partner. Thank you in advance for this gift!

For those interested, I will still be teaching, and hosting our weekly Practica at the Majestic. Join us sometime! Details on my website: www.TangoLife.biz

TangoLife Tea Party Milonga

Rebecca’s TangoLife

Tea Party Milonga

SUNDAY, April 7, 2019, 6:30-10:30 pm

LIVE MUSIC by Mermelada of Seattle, Steve Brady’s 10 Piece Orchestra!

Majestic Ballroom, 1027 N Forest St, Bellingham, WA

LIVE MUSIC Entrada $20 ($25 CDN)/ $5 college students

Signs of Spring are beginning to pop, and TangoLife Milonga will be in full bloom with a Tea Party theme Sunday April 7! We’ll be featuring traditional tea sandwiches, scones and other delicacies made by my fabulous mother Ruth Broward, and enough tea to float the English Navy. Ruth has hosted formal tea parties annually since I was a child, so we are in for a treat! (And guys, take heart, the meatballs are back on the menu!)

So find something floral or pastel to wear, gloves and a fascinator hat if you have one, and let’s officially welcome Spring.

At the DJ “booth” we are fortunate to have LIVE MUSIC by MERMELADA of Seattle! Steve Brady and his 10 piece orchestra know what dancers love, and are a tight team with inspirational tandas for you. A perfect accompaniment for a Tea Party Milonga!

As most of you are already aware, this will be the 99th TangoLife Milonga, and May 5 will be the 100th and FINAL TangoLife. I’ve so appreciated everyone’s support and friendship through the years, and the co-creation of a “blended tango community” in Bellingham. After a needed break, we shall see what other shenanigans arise! Meanwhile, join us on the dance floor!

May 5: TangoLife #100–Last, Last Tanda!

May 5: TangoLife Milonga de 100!
Last, Last Tanda!

On May 5 Rebecca’s TangoLife celebrates 9 years of hosting one of the finest and friendliest milongas in the Northwest. This will also be the 100th TangoLife Milonga!

And for better or worse, it will also be a celebration of the FINAL TangoLife Milonga. Yes, dears, after months of deep consideration, I have new clarity on how to best spend my time and energies, both for myself personally, and within the tango community.

I plan to convert the time I’ve devoted to organizing each TangoLife Milonga into smaller, local tango outreach events which used to thrill our Bellingham dancers, and caused many curious newbies to give tango a try. I’m excited to to begin creating some pop-up tango opportunities again, and revamping my portable dance floor.  Stay tuned for these events.

Aaaaaand, this will give me more time to return to my roots as a tango vagabond!

I will continue to host our weekly Wednesday Practica and Lesson at the Majestic, with a bit of added zeal… and cookies… and maybe beverages… along with David Beaumier, Eric Cole, and a host of other tango addicts. Group and private lessons will still take place at my home studio.

This NINE YEAR run of TangoLife has been an extraordinary experience. My list of significant “tango partners in crime” is long, and worthy of its own post, as TangoLife clearly required, and created, a village.

But we are NOT QUITE DONE YET! There are THREE MORE “first Sunday” TangoLife Milongas, to enjoy, to celebrate, and to commemorate:
March 3, DJ Andrew Brown, Seattle
April 7, Live Music by Mermelada from Seattle
May 5, DJ Marina Richter, Vancouver

I hope you will join us at one, or all of these, as the countdown to the “Last, Last Tanda” begins.

In Love, as in Tango,

Rebecca TangoLife Niemier

Pre-Milonga Class: 5:15-6:30 pm

Maestos Jonaton Baez & Julia Gorin

Milonga Lisa and Traspie $15 at the door

We are boldly March-ing into Spring at TangoLife! And nothing says bravery like a rugged PLAID Kilt! Or at least a plaid shirt, vest, dress, skirt, tights… For those with a St Patrick in their heritage, here is your moment to show your tartan colors! For the rest, a flannel shirt will do! Come tango through the heathers with us! We have missed you all greatly during the Snowpocalypse!

DJ ANDREW BROWN of Seattle, who routinely delights the Seattle tango community, will be reaching into his golden tandas, and reminding us how lucky we are to dance to our heart’s content.

Speaking of luck, I’m thrilled to welcome back Maestos Jonaton Baez & Julia Gorin to teach a PRE MILONGA LESSON on Milonga Lisa and Traspie. What an incredible opportunity! Check out their excellent milonga video above. Their post-ValenTango tour includes Seattle and Bellingham, thanks in part to Carmen Elisa Valencia. Enjoy top notch teaching and performing which is world renowned, and be sure to arrive early for the 5:15 class. Fortune is at our doorstep!

And men, those bowties, whether dotted, striped or solid, will surely enhance your dandy Cabeceo!

Just as snow flakes are unique creations, so are each one of our tango dancing friends and accomplices. And perhaps some are indeed “flakes,” which we love just the same. Join us as we celebrate YOUR individuality, your inner lives, your outer lives, and particularly, your TangoLife! Bring your holiday spirit, your non-holiday spirit, your alternative spirit, your questioning spirit, and let’s prepare to send this year out into the vapors of wonderment. Because face it, it has been a year of mystery!

To keep us more joyfully tethered to a reality we LOVE, we have the honor of hosting Carlos and Maureen Urrego at TangoLife for the third time! As our current USA Tango Champions, you can be sure that their HEARTS and SOULS (and SKILLS!) are deep into tango. What is especially marvelous is that they are also excellent teachers, and compassionate people. In addition, Carlos’ DJ mastery is out of this world. Last time I called him “relentless.” He may melt a few snow flakes right onto our dance floor!

So come early to Bellingham to take the class, enjoy the dancing, the music, the food, the FAKE snow flake décor, and all your kindred and flaky spirits.
