 Rebecca’s TangoLife Milonga

SUNDAY, MARCH 6, 2016

Bellingham, WA

Milonga 6:30 – 10:30 pm. $12/ $6 college students

DJ JIM DICKINSON of Bellingham

Spinning his “Off the Record,” all-vinyl, traditional tandas and cortinas, as an encore to his popular All-Analog milonga at Valentango Festival last month. Prepare to be spellbound!

Theme: SUITS AND SLINKYS

Ladies, it’s time to treat the Gents to a room full of SLINKY dresses, clinging to the curves of stunning and smart women. Silk, satin, lame’ and velvet—what better way to command their attention!

Gentlemen, it’s time to stand in your POWER SUIT, and dazzle them with your brilliance! Pinstripe or plain, nothing says confidence like the profile of a man in a suit. (As always, theme is optional, but fun!)

DJ JULIAN INGRAM, PRAGUE/ATLANTA

Theme: HEARTS ON FIRE!

Got HEARTS? Got FLAMES? Get ready for some HOT LOVE on the dance floor February 7 as TangoLife features the international musical prowess of DJ Julian Ingram, recently returned to Atlanta from several years within the European tango community. A former professional opera singer, Julian has immersed himself in the tango world as a dancer, teacher, DJ, singer, festival organizer, tango music historian and educator for over 15 years.

Join Julian for his 90 minute pre-milonga workshop/seminar “GOLDEN AGE EXPLOSION—Liberate your musicality through a deeper understanding of musical diversity in the Golden Era.”

Then enjoy his exquisite tandas during the milonga, which are sure to make your Sweethearts even sweeter.

Pre-Milonga 90 minute Workshop*: 5:00-6:30 pm. $10. All levels.

Traditional Milonga 6:30 – 10:30 pm. $12/ $6 college students

JulianIngramBlue

*Golden Age Explosion: Birth of an Era “The Golden Age of tango meant an explosion of musical diversity, new sounds and the ever-changing ways of embodying tango. In this seminar, you will gain access to understanding not only theses new sounds and changes but also to the ways of unlocking your musicality in the dance through things things like: how D’Arienzo changed both tango music history as well as the dance forever, to the complexity of Troilo or the smoothness of Fresedo. Understanding them is perhaps the best way to embrace their essence on the dance floor while also unlocking your musicality. Seminar will include a combination of lecture time and dance floor time.

Julian’s Bio: Julian began dancing tango over fifteen years ago and loves it more now than ever before. Fortunately in his career he’s been able to expand his expression in tango through teaching internationally, community building and organizing festivals. Julian’s former career as a professional opera singer make him acutely aware of music. He uses this background when DJing festivals and marathons around Europe but also each time he gives tango music and history seminars.

Of all these areas of tango, it’s teaching that brings Julian the most endearing satisfaction. Through teaching he sees the progression from a scared beginner to a confident and eager dancer. To see someone develop their own tango language during a course is exactly what teaching tango is about. Julian’s teaching style uses the social dancing of the milonga as the ultimate guide when learning to dance.

Here is a blog post interview of Julian from 2012:

Rebecca’s TangoLife Milonga “Ode to Buenos Aires” SATURDAY, OCT 31 and SUNDAY, NOV 1, 2015

bow tie bandoneons

Rebecca’s TangoLife Milonga

Ode to Buenos Aires”

A TWO DAY EVENT, HALLOWEEN WEEKEND!

SATURDAY, OCT 31 and SUNDAY, NOV 1, 2015

Join us as we dance our way through tango history, with two workshops each afternoon, taught by Robert Hauk of Portland with Rebecca Niemier. Classes focus on the Legendary Maestros who laid the foundations of what tango is today. Robert has been dancing tango a mere 20 years, teaching for 17 years, a top DJ, and a key player in the development of the Portland tango scene from its beginnings. (Videos and website below.)

In addition to workshops, the double-header weekend features:

**EL ULTIMO BAILE MILONGA on Saturday night (Halloween), and

**REBECCA’S TANGOLIFE MILONGA on Sunday night

Bellingham Halloween Weekend Schedule:

SATURDAY WORKSHOPS at the Majestic (downstairs), 1027 N Forest St, Bellingham

Important foundations for beginners and those new to milonguero concepts.

A: 2-3:15 pm. Walking and Corridas. The embrace and walking are fundamental to milonguero style. Moving freely and comfortably in close embrace opens up a world of feeling and musical expression. From a smooth walk, we’ll work with the quick walk steps called Corridas. Nice fun steps to add a bit of spice. We will build on these Corridas through the weekend.

B: 3:30-4:45 pm. Check steps and Ocho Cortado. This most pleasing combination of 2 quick check steps is a must-learn for anyone interested in milonguero style. It is easy to make many variations, and we will explore some favorites of the Maestros of tango. A very satisfying step when the timing is right with the music and partners are in sync.

SATURDAY MILONGA,

EL ULTIMO BAILE

Halloween, Oct 31, 9 pm-midnight. $6.

La Vida Dance Studio, 1417 Cornwall Ave (upstairs), Bellingham.

A cozy, costume-friendly milonga. Host/DJ David Beaumier.

See Facebook Event here.

SUNDAY WORKSHOPS held at Majestic Ballroom (upstairs), 1027 N Forest St, Bellingham.

Create a lively dance—learn to lead without pushing, and to follow instinctively.

C: 2-3:15 pm. Continued Quick Time. Here we explore steps where one or both partners are moving in double time. Fun movements with a distinctive musicality. Think Ricardo Vidort and Osvaldo Cartery.

D. 3:30-5:45 pm. Circular Movements. Robert’s biggest inspiration, from the older milongueros he knew, is from Tete Rusconi. Tete is well known for his may unique steps. Here we develop a turn combination with enrosque, which recalls Tete’s ingenious dance.

Workshop prices: $20 each for your 1st and 2nd. $15 each for your 3rd and 4th. Students: ½ off.

PRIVATE LESSONS: Sat or Sun before 2 pm: $60/hr. Rebecca’s studio. Call to schedule.

REGISTER PLEASE ASAP to help balance: Rebzebb@msn.com, or 360-739-0685.
